Car Scars …

Since ‘clipping’ my car last week,
I have noticed so many cars with scars
driving around
or parked in the parking lot.
Little dings and dents
and even bigger ones beginning to rust
that the owners have not spent the money on fixing,
probably weighing up whether it was worth it
to pay the insurance excess
just like I was …

scrapes and scratches;
injuries either inflicted
on the car’s skin by others
or glaring reminders of mistakes made with misjudgements.

This took my memories back to a bus tour I took
on ninety mile beach…
seeing stranded cars
littered across the seashore;
skeletons in the shifting sand;
peeled paint and rust bruises
evident to every eye
-scrapyard scars.

This got me thinking about
wounded lives and broken hearts
no-one can see the state of their situation.
It’s not apparent to the eye
until words wash over lips
when hurts aren’t held back.
Then there are those who say nothing
but their actions ooze anger
when they walk into your world
ripping the scars off your heart
you thought were in the process of healing
and we realise we ALL need a Saviour
to smooth the skin of our sensitive souls.
