An African Sky
This morning a big bright yellow balloon stuck up high
in the sapphire sky
is my alarm clock
as warm days drip sunshine onto sun-baked beaches
with white lace washing onto the softness of the shore
waiting
for my long legs to walk in the soft sand
on the next leg
of the journey
icing-sugar sand stuck between my toes
as I leave dusty dried dirt roads behind
covered in chestnut-coloured coats…
Overhead the feathered sky
dangles down ‘down-duvets’
as the car purrs past fields filled
with ochre mud-huts
adorned with brightly coloured painted patterns
built beneath their grass roofs
set alongside a soft sparkling stream
and as I inhale African air
I am overwhelmed by the intensity of emotion
I feel
because African blood courses through my veins
no matter where the course of my life leads me…
Summer’s sunlight
transforms from blue to a burnt sienna sky
as the day draws to a close
leaving me open-mouthed!
silently staring at our Creator’s coloured canvas
marvelling at His majesty
as we absorb the endless splendidness
of the spectacular sunset!
As I crawl under the covers in the coolness of the night
to escape a sudden chilliness that crept up unexpected,
I lay listening to the night noises
as God opens the Heavens and the rains fall out of full clouds
to bless the earth below.
I am blessed
indeed.
