Heaven – our Happy Home

When we’re weak, weary, worn-out, wounded and worried
from walking in this world
and these words describe our days,
we need to realise that we won’t always be happy
on this old earth
because we are not Home …
Unhappiness on earth cultivates a hunger for Heaven
by developing a deep dissatisfaction in the depths of our souls
and we find we cannot be satisfied settling
for the things of this world;
they simply cannot make us completely
happy
as St Augustine said
‘Thou has made us for Thyself and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee’
and the rays of light breaking through Heaven’s windows
showering us with sunshine songs
that stream into our souls
making our hearts happy
with births and rebirths
and brides and bridegrooms,
new jobs, new homes
will never make our hearts feel completely at Home…
It is this longing for belonging
and longing for life without sorrow and suffering
that strengthens our hearts
when we’ve weathered strife, struggles and stress
to KNOW that there is more
than this brief breath we breathe
while walking on the crust of creation.
God has designed us for eternal life
and with God’s help we can expand our view
when we see what Scripture says
and believe His words:
‘God so loved the world that He GAVE
His One and Only begotten Son
so that whoever believes in Him
shall not perish but have eternal everlasting life.’
