Unhardening Hearts

One cannot draw blood from a stone
and no matter how desperate one is to draw
compassion and care
from someone who doesn’t care
about you
or who is careless with you
and your heart…
you eventually have to come to the
realization that no matter
how much emotional energy and effort
you extend
nothing changes
until a heart changes
and Only One can soften a heart of stone
making it into a heart of flesh
so that it feels again.
