Word of God vs word of man
I am learning that if I run to anything or anyone
but God
there is a danger of creating an idol.
-not in the sense of idols of old
but in putting anything above Him
or giving more time to something or someone else,
I am taking time away from Him…
For instance,
when I spend more time on social media
than in His Word,
by the time I get to reading the Word of God
my concentration levels are low
and I find, I am filled with emptiness
with no space left for words that sustain me.
Many times,
I can kick myself when I spend time reading articles
that have no substance for either my soul or spirit
-time I cannot recover
no matter how much I try to scoop up the seconds I spent
and squeeze them back into my hourglass.
Not sure why I do this when I know it’s not beneficial to me.
I guess it’s like snacking on something sweet
instead of eating enough salad
-why do we know something is not good for us
but we do it anyways?
- it all boils down to the battle we face daily
- the constant, continuous conflict between the flesh and spirit
- these two forces fighting one another
and the fruit of self-control is the only way I know to overcome.
It’s the Spirit’s fruit
but we have to pick it to pick the benefits.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
