Autumn’s Afterglow

Autumn’s Afterglow
keeps shining through the chilly afternoon
as she makes way for wintertime
to take her turn on the stage of the seasons…
Displaying a dress covered in colours of warmth
showing off different shades as she shuffles out
stepping softly in her golden shoes
leaving leaves lying at her feet
that have travelled down from the tall trees above
with the gentleness of a purr…

Then as the curtain closes
the world whispers that
winter is on her way
as warmth is replaced with a wind
that bites into your bones
through the surface of your skin
so that your insides feel cold within
until the colour of Autumn crackles in the fireplace
-flames warming ones heart
even though Winter walks in with her white flowing gown
to take centre stage.

This is the warmth in winter….
