Africa’s Heart
One cannot comprehend the contrast between
big brown, smiling eyes and bright white teeth beaming joy
out of dust-dusted faces
-children clothed in well-worn, torn,
hand me down clothes compared to
young ‘privileged’ eyes that have lost their sparkle
with cupboards of clothes bursting at the seams!
-it seems that something doesn’t add up.
We’re conditioned into believing
that happiness is conditional to the conditions and circumstances
we have been born into
but
Happiness cannot be bought with ‘happy pills’
and hard bare feet are free to dance in the puddles
after African rains have delivered a downpour
with no concerns of soft shoes that carry a brand name,
becoming dirty or damaged…
-displaying a striking difference
between bored yawns and fun-filled faces!
Whether born into poverty or prosperity
at the end of the day
when all is stripped away
people are people.
- we are all but a breath on the timeline of Time.
Best to make the most of the gift of life and laughter
that echoes across Africa
- reverberating to the whole wide world .
- no matter where we put the soles of our feet or settle our souls.
When birthed on African soil, Africa’s heart will always beat in our breasts
and we will find that those big bright shining smiles
have forever planted footprints in our feelings
- an umbilical cord that always makes our hearts smile.
