I wonder whether the disciples
tried to scoop the water off the deck
while Jesus was sleeping at the bottom of the boat before
crying out in desperation to Him to save them?
-perhaps hoping the situation would settle
without having to disturb Him.

The reason why I wonder
is because
sometimes I try to scoop the water out of a ‘sinking’ situation
with a bucket punctured by bullet holes
from words that have wounded me from my past
that disfigured the face of my heart and deformed my emotions.

Trying
in my own strength
to stand against the strength of the severe storms
when they hammer my heart.
Weak solutions
that leak through the cracks of the broken bucket
as unstable, ‘insecure security’ shakes me
threatening to drown me in my sorrow
until I wobble on weak knees to wake
my Saviour
who I am convinced was sleeping with one eye open
waiting for me
to come to Him;
trying to teach me to trust Him
with smaller issues than my salvation.

This salvation that is extended to keep me safe in storms
as well as circumstances that cause me to panic.

-There is no small print to read to ensure that I’m covered
His printed Word
clearly states that He covers me under His wings …

His promise of peace stands strong in the storm as well as in the stillness
-Salvation is not an insurance policy.
There are no clauses that don’t cover a Christian
when we choose to obey
His small still Voice that whispers in this noisy world
or His Voice that shouts at the storm to ‘Be Still.’

Matthew 8 vs 23-27 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

And after He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him.
And suddenly, behold, there arose a violent storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered up by the waves; but He was sleeping.
And they went and awakened Him, saying, Lord, rescue and preserve us! We are perishing!
And He said to them, Why are you timid and afraid, O you of little faith? Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great and wonderful calm (a perfect peaceableness).
And the men were stunned with bewildered wonder and marvelled, saying, what kind of Man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him!
